  Meeting Minutes for April 8, 2014   


The April 2014 meeting of the Madison DX Club was held on Tuesday the 8th at Green Lantern in McFarland, WI.

The meeting was called to order by President Ted – K9IMM at 7:10 PM. Eighteen members and one guest Elmer “Bud” Frohardt – W9DY, attended.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the March 2014 meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Financial Statement of Account for the general fund as of March 17, 2014 was read and approved.

Committee Reports:
– DX Report… A35V & A35X – Tonga and 5J0X – San Andres are QRV now. The VK9MT – Mellish Reef DXpedition was forced to go QRT earlier than planned due to an approaching tropical storm.
– Repeater… Ed – N9MW: Repeater operating well, please use it.
– Packet Cluster… Ed – N9MW: W9BG is working.
– Website… Ed – N9MW: Website is working, have had some issues with our service provider.
– Email… Ted – K9IMM: e-mail reflector is working.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW: Reported that we have sold a donated receiver and have some good prospects for this year’s Scholarship grant.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW: The committee continues to look for donations of good used equipment for sale at the MARA Hamfest on April 12th.

General and Member Information:
Jim – KE9ET won’t be climbing towers for a while because he is recovering from a broken ankle sustained at work.
Jim – W9GL ran his classic Collins station in the CQ-WPX SSB contest, made over 300 contacts.
Doug – W9PN reported that club member Lloyd – N9LB is currently in the #2 position, out of 90,400 call signs listed on the ARRL Centennial QSO Party leader-board.
Bill – N9CHN operated as W1AW/7 in the Arizona ARRL Centennial QSO Party, reported that it was a lot of fun.
Lloyd – N9LB reported that ARRL Centennial week-2 coordinator Paul Bittner, W0AIH, has invited MDXC members to operate as W1AW/9 at either the W0AIH super station,
or from our home QTH’s, in the upcoming Wisconsin ARRL Centennial QSO Celebration during the week of July 2 to 8, 2014.
So far, Ted – K9IMM, Dean – K9QB, Tim – WO9U, Ed – N9MW, Doug – W9PN, and Lloyd – N9LB have volunteered to operate as W1AW/9.

Old Business:
Jim – W9GL reminded club members to RSVP for the MDXC Spring Banquet being held at the Maple Tree in McFarland on April 19th. Socializing starts at 5 PM, order dinner from the menu at 6 PM.
Lloyd – N9LB reported that the contribution to the Tromelin Is DXpedition was made and our MDXC logo and link to our website are now on the FT/t Tromelin website:

New Business:
Bill – N9CHN and Sharron KA9GPY volunteered their lakeside QTH as the location for the 2014 MDXC picnic. Exact date for this event will be selected soon.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 7:54 PM.
