  Meeting Minutes for January 14, 2014   

The January 2014 meeting of the Madison DX Club was held on Tuesday the 14th at Fitzgerald’s in Middleton, WI.

The meeting was called to order by President Ted – K9IMM at 7:00 PM.

Seven members and five guests: Frieda –KC9YTA, Bonnie – W9BJB, Gary – K9AY, Dan – K9IBM, and Dave – WB9EGZ all braved the snowstorm to attended.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the December meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Financial Statement of Account for the general fund as of December 17, 2013 was read and approved.

Committee Reports:
– DX Report… Doug – W9PN: OG0A – Aland Island on now, FT5ZM – Amsterdam Island coming up on January 24th.
– Repeater… Ed – N9MW: Repeater operating well.
– Packet Cluster… Ed – N9MW: W9BG is working.
– Website… Ed – N9MW: Website is working.
– Email… Ted – K9IMM: e-mail reflector is working, working to increase the allowed # of cc’s on our email reflector.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW: Scholarship letters have been sent, this year he added 8 or 9 southern Wisconsin ARRL Affiliated Clubs to the mailing list.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW:Also looking for donations of equipment that will then be sold at the MARA Hamfest in April for scholarship fundraising.

General and Member Information:
Doug – W9PN has earned QRP DXCC with his new Elecraft KX3.
Ted – K9IMM received his 7-Band DXCC award.
Lloyd – N9LB received his DXCC Honor Roll “wood” plaque, it only took 44 years.
Ted – K9IMM now has a new Expert 2K-FA Solid State Amplifier interfaced into his station, says it works well.
Ed – N9MW reported that Bill – N9CHN and Sharon – KA9GPY have a new vertical antenna at their AZ QTH.
Lloyd – N9LB reported that five MDXC members, who are also contesters, have been selected to operate as W1AW/9.
This is for the W1AW/9 – Wisconsin for the ARRL Centennial On Air Celebration. This event will run from February 12 to 18th.
This will be a contest style operation with high national and international QSO rates expected. Overall there are a total of 18 WI based operators QRV for this event.

Old Business: None

New Business:
Ed – N9MW motioned to make a donation of $50 to the BARS – W9YT radio club to help offset the costs of hosting our packet cluster equipment.
That was seconded, a discussion took place and it was voted to make that donation.
Ed – N9MW motioned to make a donation of $25 to the software writer who produces AR-Cluster DX Packet Cluster software – AB5K.
That was seconded, a discussion took place and it was voted to make that donation.
Ted – K9IMM presented a request for sponsorship by the organizers of a proposed FT/T – Tromelin Island DXpedition later this year.
The request was tabled until a future meeting in the hope that they will have better defined plans and a firm schedule before we consider this request.
Ted announced that the February MDXC meeting will be at the Green Lantern in McFarland.

The business portion of meeting was adjourned at 7:42 PM.

A very interesting program about building small low-band receiving antennas was presented by Gary Breed – K9AY.
