  Meeting Minutes for July 8, 2014   


The July 2014 meeting of the Madison DX Club was held on Tuesday the 8th at the Green Lantern in McFarland, WI.

The meeting was called to order by President Ted – K9IMM at 7:15 PM. Sixteen members attended.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Financial Statement of Account for the general fund as of June 17, 2014 was read and approved.

Committee Reports:
– DX Report… Ted – K9IMM reported excellent band conditions on 12, 10 and 6 meters.
– DX Report… Ted – K9IMM reported FP/KV1J -Miquelon is QRV now to July 15,
– DX Report… Ted – K9IMM reported FT4TA – Tromelin will be QRV in October, VK0HR now scheduled for January 2016.
– Repeater… Ed – N9MW: Repeater operating well at 30 watts output, please use it.
– Packet Cluster… Ed – N9MW: W9BG is working.
– Website… Ed – N9MW: Website is working, looking for volunteer to assist with web content.
– Email… Ted – K9IMM: e-mail reflector is working.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW: Reported that we have a candidate for this year’s scholarship.
– Scholarship… Ed – N9MW: Some of the recently donated equipment is still available for sale, including an amplifier.

General and Member Information:
John – N9EM reported that his new tower is complete and that it includes an “elevator” to take his Hex-Beam up and down the tower as needed.
Bob – W9EWZ reported an unintended “trimming” of his coax cable.
Lloyd – N9LB reported several MDXC members participated in the ARRL Centennial QSO party as “W1AW/9 Wisconsin” from July 2nd to 8th.

Old Business: None

New Business:
The August 12 MDXC meeting/Picnic will be at the Lake Wisconsin QTH of Sharon – KA9GPY and Bill – N9CHN. Bring your own food and utensils.
A grill will be provided for cooking. It was moved and seconded to allocate $25 for liquid refreshments for the August meeting.
After a brief discussion, the motion was voted on and approved.

The September 9th MDXC meeting will be at Fitzgerald’s in Middleton.

A program presented by Tom – W0IVJ to design, completely understand and build a transceiver from scratch using what
is known to the world, and then adding his own twists to his home-made transceiver was presented via web-conference.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 PM.

A program about lightning and grounding was presented by Lloyd – N9LB.
